Scorch Plugin Installation Tutorial

In order to view, listen, transpose or print the sheet music on our site, you have to install a supplementary module on your browser. Thoses modules are also called "plugins" or ActiveX controls for Internet Explorer and allow your browser to display or execute files that are not supported by default. There are a lot of plugins available out there, the most famous being the flash plugin to execute macromedia flash animation and acrobat reader for the pdf files. The plugin for the sheet music on our site is called "Sibelius Scorch" and was developped by "Sibelius", firm that also developped the well known sheet music processor software of the same name.

If the Sibelius Scorch plugin is already installed on your computer, You'll be able to see the sheet music displayed HERE, sheet music of "La foule" by Edith Piaf.

If you cannot see the sheet music of "La foule" then this page is done to help you in the installation of the Sibelius Scorch plugin, after which your experience on our site will be largely improved.

Please, choose in the list here below the browser you use and follow the installation steps, it's easy and fast :

1) If the Sibelius Scorch plugin is not installed on Internet Explorer, the browser will warn you of a missing plugin (ActiveX Control) on a (yellow) bar at the top of the window and in the space dedicated to the sheet music on a white part with a warning sign and a message to invite you to install the missing plugin.

Click either on the top bar or in the white part and in the little menu that popups select the "Install ActiveX Control" item.

Note : on some computers Internet Explorer will be set to automatically install missing plugins, therefore you will be presented with the step 2 window without having to do anything first.

2) You're are presented a window asking for confirmation of the plugin installation, giving you the name of the plugin and the name of the manufacturer. Click on the "Install" button to confirm

3) Once the installation program launched, click on the "Next" button on the first screnn.

4) Then on "I Agree".

5) Then on "Finish".

The installation program then copy the required files.

6) Finally, Click on the "Finish" button. Despite the message, most of windows version since Windows 98 won't require a reboot, so don't bother with this last warning.

7) Once the plugin installed, the sheet music (and all sheet music of the site) should display correctly without further action. If not directly, try to press the F5 key in order to refresh the page display. If the sheet music is correctly displayed, then you'll be able to take advantage of the interactivity with all the sheet music of our site

8) If the sheet music is not correctly displayed even after the plugin installation, then try to close and restart your browser, and if still nothing, check if the plugin was correctly instaaled by going to the "Tools" menu and selecting the "Manage complementary modules" option.

9) Check that the plugin is correctly installed by finding the "ScorchPlugin Class" in the list (checked out in red here below). Check also that the "Activate" option is correctly set at the bottom of the page, selecting it if necessary. If you cannot find the "ScorchPlugin Class" line even after have restarted your browser then restart the installation process from the start

10) If the "ScorchPlugin Class" line is present in the list, but the sheet music are still not displayed, maybe the security parameters of your browser are set to a level that do not allow the execution of plugins. To check this, please go to the "Tools" menu then select the "Internet Options" item. Once in the options window, select the Security tab.

11) The standard by default security level is "Medium". If the level on your computer is set to "High" or "Customized", then you must check and set if not certain options in order to allow the execution and display of plugins.

In order to modify those options click on the "Customize level" button

12) Find the "Execute ActiveX controls and plugins" in the list and set it to "Activate" if not.

13) Then find the "Active Scripting" option, and set it to "Activate" too.

14) Click on the "Ok" button to take those new parameters in account.

Sheet music should then be displayed and usable. if not try a F5 key press or to close and restart you browser.

If after all those parameters checked and correctly set, it still doesn't work correctly, then you can email us your specific problem on the "Contact Us" page, providing us with possible error message you encountered, and also the version of your Windows and Internet Explorer.

1) If Sibelius Scorch plugin is not installed for Firefox, it wil present you a (yellow) bar at the top of the page, plus a white space in the part dedicated to the sheet music in the page, those two with a message warning you that a plugin is missing and to invite you to install it.

Click either on the white space on in the "Install Missing Plugin" in the top bar to start the installation process.

2) Firefox gonna first check if it can install the plugin on his own, but this not being possible with the Sibelius Scorch plugin, will present you a "Manual Install" button. Click on it to proceed.

3) Firefox then open The download page of the Scorch plugin

In that page, select your platform (Win/Mac) and provide your email address (checking the mailing list option if you want to receive news/updates from sibelius). Then click "Next"

4) In the second page, select the download source, no matter which one, and click"download".

5) Then you must save the installation program ("InstallScorch.exe") on your computer by clicking on "Save File".

6) Save it where you can easily find it, for instance on your Desktop, as it will be quickly accessible there.

7) Once the installation program downloaded, launch it by double clicking the "InstallScorch.exe" icon on your desktop or in the folder in which you saved it.

In the first screen of the installation, check the "Manually Choose Browser Directory" option and click "Next"

8) On the second screen click "I Agree".

9) The installation then ask you where to install the plugin files. Select the "plugins" folder that stands in the Firefox folder, usually this folder is "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins" unless you have installed Firefox elsewhere. Then click on "Ok"

Note : for different browsers, the installation principle will be the same as Firefox except for this part where you'll have to select the "plugins" folder of your specific browser instead. For instance, the "Opera" plugins folder usually is "C:\Program Files\Opera\program\plugins", and in general the plugin folder is a folder named around "plugins" word and located in the browser folder

10) The installation program then ask for confirmation of the folder, click "Yes".

11) Then click on "Finish".

12) And finally "Ok". Despite this last message, most of Windows configuration don't need a reboot of the computer after this installation, so don't bother with this warning.

13) Once the instalaltion done, go back to the original window and close the "Firefox Plugin Service" popup by clicking on "Finish".

14) Refresh the page display by going in the "View" menu and selecting the "Reload" item (or by the shortcut Ctrl+R). If the sheet music still doesn't display correctly, close and restart Firefox.

15) Et voilà, you can know take full advantage of the interactive sheet music of our site and have an improved surfing experience.

And if it still doesn't work correctly for you, then you can email us your specific problem on the "Contact Us" page, providing us with possible error message you encountered, and also the version of your Windows and Firefox.

The installation for other Windows browser in the same as the Firefox installation process. Most browsers will present you a white space in place of the sheet music with a message warning that a plugin is missing and/or inviting you to install the missing plugin. By clicking on the the message you'll be send on the Shorch plugin download page. Refer to the Firefox installation, but on step 9, as stated on the Firefox section, ensure to give the correct folder path where to install the plugin, for instance, for a default configuration of the Opera browser, the location of the plugins folder will be "C:\Program Files\Opera\program\plugins".

The plugin instalaltion on Macintosh either on Safari or Firefox, is the same in the principle as the Firefox and others Windows browsers. You'll be redirected on the Scorch plugin download page, where you'll have to select the Mac platform instead of Windows, Refer to Step 3 in the Firefox installation section. Once the installation program will be downloaded and saved on you Desktop, launch it by double clicking on its icon and follow the installation steps, you won't have to provide the plugin installation folder there as macOS stores plugins in a common folder. Once the installation done, you may have to press Ctrl+R in order to refresh the page display.

Saddly, there's no release of the Sibelius Scorch plugin available for Linux, and there's no plan in that way in the near future. Therefore you won't be able to see sheet music on our site, nor listen, transpose or print them.
